Job Title: Curator – Part Time

Summary:


The Curator is responsible for proactively developing relationships, soliciting, and networking with regional artists in conjunction with the Board of Directors, the Exhibition Committee and the Executive Director to establish a calendar of exhibition programming for the Brandt, Armstrong, and Dolan Galleries that fulfills the MCAC mission. Exhibitions/artists are selected

with assistance from the Board of Directors Exhibition Committee.


Key Responsibilities:


• Utilize exhibitions to meet the MCAC mission

• Maintain the exhibition programming calendar for all three MCAC galleries (Brandt, Armstrong, and Dolan)

• Establish regular cadence for reviewing and accepting exhibition proposals in coordination with the MCAC Board of Directors Exhibition Committee

• Create compelling exhibition design and installation, including gallery transition and prep. The paramount goals of these exhibitions are to draw attendance, create new membership interest and membership renewal, and help boost the stature of MCAC within local, regional, state and federal art communities

• Coordinate with the Office Manager to prepare the facility for new exhibitions including, but not limited to:

o Wall prep and painting before installation

o Lighting requirements (cans, bulbs etc.)

o Façade and exterior cleanup prior to and during exhibitions

• Maintain exhibiting artist materials (contracts, price/inventory lists, etc.)

• Serve as artist liaison

• Conduct exhibiting artist interviews for exhibition videos in partnership with the Executive Director

• Design “Exhibition Postcards” and other promotional materials - and manage their production/mailing timelines


Qualifications:


• 3 to 5 years of Curator / Preparator, or related experience required

• Ability to create and manage a calendar schedule, including all tasks for successful exhibitions / installations required

• Excellent communication, follow-through, and collaboration skills required.

• Evidence of ability to “INSPIRE” a significant plus

• Video pre and post production skills a plus

• Education – BFA or MFA preferred

Job Title: Director of Development – Full Time

Summary:

The Director of Development has responsibility to ensure MCAC is meeting its mission to the county and delivering the resources to accomplish this mission. This position is responsible for creating and implementing an Executive Director and Board of Director approved strategic development plan. The Director of Development is also responsible for new member recruitment, existing member relations and renewal, developing individual and institution donors, and is the primary liaison to the community together with the Executive Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic development and membership planning
  • Tactical development and membership execution based on approved plans
  • Specific focus on developing dynamic new and existing member relationships (individual and institutional) through outreach, new initiatives, and existing, proven programs
  • Directly responsible for growing MCAC membership in partnership with the MCAC Board of Directors Membership Committee
  • Establish and maintain donor relationships and solicitation
  • Create and execute a Social Media strategy with the objectives of creating revenue and building membership
  • Responsible for festival management, including the Sugar Creek Arts Festival. In addition, this position will act as event lead with collaboration from the Executive Director and other members of the management team
  • Develop and execute a Community Outreach Plan, including underserved/ underrepresented populations and groups within McLean County

Qualifications:

  • 3 to 5 years of prior development experience as director, manager, assistant manager/director, or related fundraising experience required
  • Experience with non-profits required
  • Operational understanding of development and implementation of a strategic plan required
  • Independent self-motivated AND good collaborator required
  • Excellent strategic planning and management skills essential
  • Excellent tactical and communication skills essential
  • Gallery or other art institution experience a significant plus
  • Network of donor (individual and/or institutional) contacts a significant plus
  • Education - BS or BA preferred

Director of Education and Programming – Full Time

Summary:

The Director of Education and Programming has responsibility for developing and managing the MCAC class and workshop programs. This includes creating schedules, selection of instructors, management of art supplies, student relations and gathering feedback. This position is also responsible for developing new community outreach class/program concepts both onsite or offsite with community partners and will collaborate with the Director of Development to create more value within the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Liaison to MCAC instructors, recruit, select, and schedule classes
  • Liaison to MCAC new and returning students
  • Management of class/workshop supplies
  • Create class promotion and advertising
  • Create and execute class social media presence, in alignment with Director of Development’s Social Media Strategy, to promote educational programs and community engagement
  • Develop resources/programs to support community outreach efforts
  • Maintain MCAC library

Qualifications:

  • 3 to 5 years teaching experience within the arts field required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Working artist preferred
  • Multiple media (i.e., painting, drawing, ceramics) practice and experience a plus
  • Passion for community engagement a significant advantage
  • Ability and willingness to work in the evenings and weekends required
  • Education - Bachelor’s degree with education certificate required

Wages and Benefits

Part time positions (Office Manage and Curator) will receive an hourly wage within the range of $22.00 -$25.00 per hour, based on experience and at the discretion of the Executive Director.

Full time positions (Director of Development and Director of Education and Programming) will receive an annual salary within the range of $48,000 - $55,000, based on experience and at the discretion of the Executive Director. This assumes a 40-hour workweek but is not eligible for overtime pay.

Full time positions will also be eligible for a paid health insurance plan provided by BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois – Blue Choice Preferred PPO, which will be paid 100% by MCAC. This is for the employee only.

Paid time of (includes vacation and sick leave) will be offered and accrue as follows:

  • 5 days upon hire
  • After 90 days of employment, the following accrual rates apply:
  • Accrual after 90 days:

o Year 1 -2: .077

o Year 2-4: .0615

o Year 5+: .0808

Paid Holidays (for full time only) will include:

      • New Year Day
      • Memorial Day
      • Independence Day
      • Labor Day
      • Thanksgiving Day
      • Christmas Day and Day After Christmas


Hiring/Interview Process:

Employment postings will close on March 19, 2023.

Received applications will be reviewed and screen by the Executive Director and the current Task Force. In the future, the Task Force will be replaced by a group of five MCAC Board Members.  This screening will determine the candidate pool to move forward for interviews.  Two rounds of interviews will be completed for the selected candidate pool.  The first round will be conducted by the MCAC Executive Director and current staff member (Office Manager).

The second round will be conducted by the MCAC Executive Director and two MCAC Board Members. The MCAC Executive Director will have final hiring decision rights.
