Notes from the Director

It has been an interesting time to be in the non-profit sector.  The tumult of Washington does trickle down and we will join all sectors of non-profits, universities and municipalities as we wait to see what happens next. Our friends at WGLT invited me to a deep dive discussion of the impact all of this is having and could have, and Lauren Warnecke filed this report.

We lost a good friend of the holidays. Susan Vincent died very unexpectedly as the result of a short illness.  Susie was the Art Teacher at Chiddix Junior High in Normal, and had been a very active MCAC Board member.  She was slated to retire at the end of the school year, with plans to rejoin our board with her new found free time. We mourn her loss and our thoughts are with her husband Randy and daughter Morgan. In her memory we are adding a new award to our annual amateur exhibition for the best high school art: The Susan Vincent Prize.

We have been expanding our education programming.  For more than twelve years we have focused on adult programming and it's proven to be successful.  Drawing, Painting, Ceramics, Enameling, Photography, and more have had steady enrollment.  In response to overwhelming requests we are expanding our programming to include classes for Middle School and High School students.

We are undertaking a mural project for our building exterior.  This effort will partner with artists and community members of all ages to create a collaborative mural to permanently affixed to our building concrete exterior walls.

Our Board President Reports:

The board has been busy working on our strategic plan. Committees will update their goals monthly. We are also in the process of interviewing architects. We are sharing our vision with each architect and requesting rendering of their ideas. This is such an exciting time for the center and our community. We will keep you informed as we progress.
