Doug Johnson, Executive Director


Doug graduated from Normal Community High School and Illinois State University. He holds a masters degree in Studio Art from ISU, where studied with Ken Holder and Harold Gregor. He earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from Northern Illinois University, where he studied with Ben Mahmoud, Gordon Dorn, and David Bower.


He has served on the executive board of Arts Alliance Illinois, and is the past president of the Bloomington Rotary Club, the Unitarian Universalist Church, and is co-chair of the Local Arts NetworkA practicing artist, his paintings are in many public and private collections across the county.

Cheryl Richards, Office Manager


Joining the staff in July 2025, Cheryl is in charge of membership and bookkeeping responsibilities.

Amy Yeager, Curator

A graduate of Illinois State University's Master of Fine Arts program, Amy is a painter with a background that includes medical Illustration. As the child of diplomats she has had experiences living around the globe from a young age. She continues to teach college classes in addition to her role at the MCAC.

Lydia McNiff, Project Coordinator

Lydia is a recent graduate of Illinois State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Photography. Her current artistic practice focuses on raising awareness of women’s health through still lifes and self-portraits. Her passion for community engagement and the fine arts has inspired her to pursue a career in arts administration and development.

Sarah Hurley,  Ceramics Assistant


Sarah Hurley has been practicing the craft of ceramics since 2012. As of 2018 Sarah started making contemporary tableware under the name Fire and Feldspar. Sarah is also a local chef, specializing in pastry. Most recently she has married her high school sweetheart.

Michael Ashton, Intern

Michael Ashton is the current Student Intern for the Arts Center. He is a junior at Illinois Wesleyan with a double major in Psychology, Sociology, and Women's, Gender, and Sexualities studies. When not working, Michael also holds five other jobs, conducts independent research, and is the co-director of the Feminist Killjoys at IWU. He plans to earn his PhD in Sociology, focusing on the workplace and its intersection with identities.
