Mondays, 6 sessions

Mar. 18, 25, Apr. 1, 8, 15, 22;

6:30-9:00 pm,

Fee: $150 (Non Member)

This six-week course will provide beginning students with a basic foundation in the art of enameling.  Vitreous enamels are ground glass powders that are applied to metal and fused on permanently in a kiln.  Designs are built up using several layers with separate firings for each layer.  Enameling is an exciting and versatile medium, colorful, durable and full of design opportunities -- great for 2-D artists who want to expand their media horizons, and for beginners who want to learn about this ancient method of combining glass with metal.  We will be working with opaque and transparent enamels, learning test-tile making, sifting, stenciling, sgraffito, wet-packing, stoning, and kiln-firing techniques. All tools and materials provided; it is strongly recommended that students be able to attend at least the first three to four sessions without absences.

Mission Statement: We encourage and promote the appreciation, study, cultivation, development, and practice of art for the benefit of all the people, cultures and communities of McLean County.
