M-2 Taste of Enameling Intensive

with Nisa Blackmon

Saturday & Sunday, 2 sessions

Mar. 16th & 17th;

9:00 am-12:00 pm,

Fee: $75 (Non Member)

This two-session class will introduce students to the basics of using opaque enamels on copper.  Vitreous enamels are ground glass powders that are applied to metal and fused on permanently in a kiln.  Designs are built up using several layers with separate firings for each layer.  Enameling is an exciting medium, colorful, durable and full of design opportunities -- great for 2-D artists who want to expand their media horizons, or for beginners who want to make a cool piece of jewelry!  We will be working with sifting, stenciling, sgraffito, wet-packing and kiln-firing techniques on a jewelry scale (but also applicable to larger formats).   Students will take home at least one finished piece to use as a pendant, charm, or keychain.

 All materials and tools provided.

Mission Statement: We encourage and promote the appreciation, study, cultivation, development, and practice of art for the benefit of all the people, cultures and communities of McLean County.
