Mug Exchange with Erin Furimsky

Tuesday, 4
 sessions

May 5, 12, 19, 26

6:30-9:00 PM

This 4-week class will consist of throwing mugs with our mid-range stoneware clay body. Erin will bring in mugs from her collection and break down different approaches to creating handled drinking vessels. Three weeks will be spent making the mugs, with one class focused on glazing using cone 5/6 glazes. During the month, we will cover possible profiles and volumes, interesting trimming and thoughtful rims, and of course, carefully crafting a variety of handles. We will offer a throwing-based section and a hand-built section in this class. We will meet up all as one group by mid-June. Once we nail down the best date, we will share in the great madness of the mug exchange. That is right, you will leave with three mugs made by fellow potters. You will put 3 of your own mugs into the blind swap and receive 3 mugs. We will celebrate functional art created by someone from our great clay community here at MCAC and grow your own mug collection.

All materials and tools provided. This class is suitable for intermediate to advanced ceramicists.

Mission Statement: We encourage and promote the appreciation, study, cultivation, development, and practice of art for the benefit of all the people, cultures and communities of McLean County.
