N1 Taste of Enameling with Nisa Blackmon

Saturday and Sunday, 2 sessions

May 23-24

9:00 AM-12:00 PM

This two-session class will introduce students to the basics of using liquid-form enamels, which are colored glass powders ground finely enough to suspend in a medium and used in ways similar to paints. Compositions are built up in layers, each one fired separately. Enameling is an exciting medium, colorful, durable and rich in design opportunities! It’s great for 2-D or ceramic artists who want to expand their media horizons, or for anyone who wants to make cool, original jewelry. Students will learn basic application methods, such as dipping and brushwork, and design techniques like stenciling, sgraffito and stoning. Finally, pieces will be fired in a kiln. Students will create small two-dimensional enameled steel tiles that can be mounted as wall art or used with magnets to adorn refrigerators or wear as a brooch.

No enameling experience necessary. All tools and materials provided.

Mission Statement: We encourage and promote the appreciation, study, cultivation, development, and practice of art for the benefit of all the people, cultures and communities of McLean County.
