N2 Intro to Enameling with Nisa Blackmon
Tuesday and Monday, 6 sessions
Jan. 20, 27, Feb. 3, 10, 16, 23

6:30 - 9:00 PM

Vitreous enamels are ground glass powders that are fused to metal in a kiln. Designs are built up in layers, each one fired separately. Enameling is an exciting medium, colorful, durable and rich in design opportunities! It’s great for 2-D or ceramic artists who want to expand their media horizons and for anyone who wants to learn about this ancient method of combining glass with metal. In this six-session event, students will work with both opaque and transparent enamels and receive a thorough grounding in the basics of enameling. Techniques such as sifting, stenciling, sgraffito, stoning, kiln-firing and glass embellishments will be used to produce finished pieces of jewelry or small decorative tiles. All tools and materials provided.

Suitable for beginners and those with no prior enameling experience.

It is strongly recommended that students be able to attend at least the first two sessions without absence!

Mission Statement: We encourage and promote the appreciation, study, cultivation, development, and practice of art for the benefit of all the people, cultures and communities of McLean County.
