J1 - Intro To Metalsmithing & Jewelry: Collage Pendants and Earrings with Nisa Blackmon

In this 4-session workshop, students will learn fundamental metal-working skills (sawing, piercing, filing & sanding, patination and tab-setting) and combine them with the rich medium of collage to create one-of a kind pieces of jewelry.  We will create personalized collages and set them in hand-made metal settings.  This course will result in at least one piece of finished jewelry, enable students to continue making more of their own metal jewelry and can serve as a foundation for further jewelry classes.

Students will need to bring a pair of safety glasses to all sessions. Students may bring to the first session a collection of materials, of their choice, that can be cut up to make mini-collages (examples:  decorative papers, paper memorabilia, vintage paper ephemera, fabric scraps, paintings, drawings or sketches, photos, illustrations or text, prints, pressed flowers, etc., etc.!).  Plenty of collage materials will be provided by instructor, Nisa Blackmon as well. 

The tool and materials kit, purchased by each student, will contain everything necessary to turn our tiny collages into wearable jewelry and is the student's to keep to continue making beautiful jewelry on their own.
