Come and make a set of address numbers for your home or a gift! This fun and easy hand-building ceramic intensive is open to all levels. Beautiful and uniquely handcrafted address tiles made by you are a wonderful addition to your home. The technique of sgraffito will be used to create the numbers and additional patterns or graphics as a border. Sgraffito is a decorating technique produced by applying layers of color (underglazes) to leather hard pottery and then scratching off parts of the layers to create contrasting images, patterns, and textures and reveal the clay color underneath. You will choose 1-3 colors of underglaze. Each tile measures between 4-6 inches (you decide from a few templates) and once fired they can be glued, hung, or screwed for mounting.

This is a two-part workshop. In the first workshop, we practice the sgraffito technique, cut out larger tiles from a slab, draw the composition onto paper, paint underglaze onto tiles, and transfer that composition. The following week will be spent doing the sgraffito technique so the composition emerges. Once completed the tiles take about a week to dry completely before firing in the kiln. Once fired, we will apply a clear glaze and fire again. You will pick up your finished pieces within 2 weeks of the workshop.

*All materials including clay, glazes, tools and kiln firings included in fee.
