The McLean County Arts Center presents Vaughn Wascovich’s photography exhibition Welcome to Hard Times-East Texas Pinholes in the Brandt Gallery from April 28 through June 10, 2017. The free and public Artist Reception and Art Talk will be on Friday, June 9, 5 - 7 pm. Wascovich will also give a Workshop on Saturday, June 10, 12-3 pm. The artist will show the process of the old process of taking pictures with pinhole cameras.

Vaughn Wascovich’s work is the result of combining the primitive method of a pinhole camera with digital technology. His work and research are full of social content. Man’s relationship to the environment, compromised landscapes, the politics of indigenous peoples and environmental issues are some of the concepts that come to mind while enjoying the artist’s work. The Northeast Texas landscape is depicted with a poetic and unique vision. Mobile homes, collapsed churches and abandoned farms emphasize the ideas of displacement and transience. These concepts transport us to the richness of the area and also its uncertainty. Light and Time (physical and symbolically) are well addressed in Vaughn's work, each becoming co-creators in the artist’s vision and inviting viewers to consider the work beyond temporal means.

Mission Statement: We encourage and promote the appreciation, study, cultivation, development, and practice of art for the benefit of all the people, cultures and communities of McLean County.
