    C-5 Woodland Creature Homes with Erin Furimsky

    Tuesdays, 4 Sessions

    May 7, 14, 21, 28 2023

    6:30-9:00pm

    Fee: $130 (Non Member)

    In this four-week workshop participants will create a magical little house out of soft slabs with MCAC Instructor Erin Furimsky. These will be inspired by mushrooms, flowers, bark textures, moss, fairies, and gnomes.

    This is version 2.0 of this class. Simply because we had so much success and fun last year. I will have a new variation of the base form we made last year so repeat students are welcome.  This class welcomes all levels of makers. If you are new to clay, step-by-step instructions will be shared and if you have some experience, you will have lots of room to challenge yourselves with the craftsmanship and creative details. Homes for tiny woodland creatures

    During the first week, we will construct a cylindrical 4x6 inch structure and roof out of soft slabs. These will dry a bit and be ready the following week for you to add all the fantastic details you can imagine. The last week will be spent adding underglaze and glaze to the bisque fired pieces. The finished projects will be available for you to pick up within two weeks.

    Enrollment in this class provides access to MCAC's kilns and our full range of ceramic glazes, plus tools and 10lbs of clay, and a shelf. Does not include access to open studio

    All tools and materials provided.

    M-2 Introduction to Enameling Class

    with Nisa Blackmon

    Mondays, 6 sessions

    June 17, 24, July 1, 8, 15, 22;

    6:30-9:00 pm,

    Fee: $150 (Non Member)

    This six-session course will provide beginning students with a basic foundation in the art of enameling.  Vitreous enamels are ground glass powders that are applied to metal and fused permanently in a kiln.  Designs are built up in layers, each one fired separately.  Enameling is an exciting medium, colorful, durable and rich in design opportunities!  It’s great for 2-D or ceramic artists who want to expand their media horizons, and for anyone who wants to learn about this ancient method of combining glass with metal.  We will be working mainly with opaque enamels, embellishing with glass threads, beads and jewel lumps and learning sifting, stenciling, sgraffito, stoning, and kiln-firing techniques.  Students can create pieces such as earrings, pendants, charms or two-dimensional tiles.  All tools and materials provided.

    It is strongly recommended that students be able to attend at least the first two sessions without absences.

    PH-4 Camera Operations Workshop

     Saturday, 1 Session

    Aug. 1oth

    1-4:00pm

    Fee: $25 (Non Member)

    Intimidated by the manual setting on your camera? Manual is where the magic happens! Join MCAC instructor, Dave Fulghum for an afternoon exploring all the photographic possibilities in the manual settings of your camera. We will spend the majority of our time discussing the exposure triangle and manual operations of your individual cameras. Once you gain a good understanding of how to operate in manual mode the creative world of photography becomes far more accessible. We will also spend a little time on composition and a brief talk about post production (editing) and there will be time for questions and demos on your cameras.

    This will be primarily targeted at DSLR and Film camera users. Many aspects of the class may be applied to any type of camera where you have control over ISO, f stop and shutter speed.

    *Please bring your camera with you to class, it's not necessary to have a camera for the workshop but it will be helpful.

    M-4 Liquid Enamels Class

    with Nisa Blackmon

    Saturday & Sunday,  2 sessions

    Aug 17, 18;

    6:30-9:00 pm,

    Fee: $75 (Non Member)

    Liquid enamels are colored glass powders that are ground finely enough to suspend in a medium, allowing them to be used with various painting techniques.  Like sifting enamels, they are fired onto metal in a kiln to produce vibrant, color-fast, durable art or jewelry pieces.  In this two-day workshop, we will explore the possibilities of liquid form enamels and learn dipping, brushwork, sgraffito, stoning and marbling techniques.  Students will create small two-dimensional enameled steel tiles which can be mounted as wall art or used with magnets to adorn refrigerators and/or bodies!

    All tools and materials provided.

Mission Statement: We encourage and promote the appreciation, study, cultivation, development, and practice of art for the benefit of all the people, cultures and communities of McLean County.
