Enamel and Metals Open Studio with Nisa Blackmon

Tuesday and Monday, 6 sessions

Oct 27, Nov 3, 10, 16, 23, 30

6:30 - 9:30 PM

Open Studio provides supervised work time for students who have completed basic introductory enameling and metals courses at MCAC or other institutions. Students will work on their own projects using any enameling or metals/jewelry techniques and materials in which they have been trained. Nisa will be present each night for guidance and problem-solving, but no formal instruction or lectures will be scheduled except for orientation on the first night. Please join us for these fun and relaxing sessions; they are a great opportunity to build community and work alongside fellow enamelists and metalsmiths!

Prior training in metals or enamels OR completion of any of MCAC’s 5- or 6-week classes in metals or enamels is required for enrollment. This class provides students with access to basic enameling and metalworking tools and supplies, our enameling kiln, our library of enamels and the instructor’s 30+ years of experience! Some metals and pre-enameled steel sheet will be provided and other selected materials will be available for purchase. Students are welcome to bring their own tools and supplies as well, and are encouraged to begin building their own palette of enamels. The instructor will be happy to provide guidance in making purchases of enamels, tools and metals if needed.

Mission Statement: We encourage and promote the appreciation, study, cultivation, development, and practice of art for the benefit of all the people, cultures and communities of McLean County.
