MCAC Teen & Youth WORKSHOPS & Classes:


Our beginner classes and workshops are great for teens! (12-18 yr olds) And starting this fall (2022) we will offer Friday Afternoon Workshops for Youth (7-12 yr olds).  We focus on quality instruction and small class sizes. Join us for some fun this fall!

Registration Policies:

Your class registration is not complete until your payment is processed. Lack of timely payment (24 hours) will result in your partial registration being deleted. 

Class registration may be cancelled up to 7 days before the start of class for a full refund. 

Class registration may be transferred up to 7 days before the start of class. Only one transfer is allowed, per registration/payment.

    Moms, dads, grandparents, uncles and aunts and guardians, we have a great opportunity for you and your little ones. Join MCAC Instructor, Marjorie Hauge for this wonderful set of workshops.

    A handful of clay and your fingers can make wonderous things. Come explore the fun of making rattles out of clay. This workshop is for an adult and child of any school age. You design the rattles and shape them in the first session. The second session you choose the glaze and play with color. Come prepared for fun! 

    *The fee includes price of class for 1 adult and up to two children, 2 pounds of clay that can make up to 4 rattles total, and glazes and kiln firing. This class is great for any school age child, if you have questions please call us at the Arts Center.

    Instructor Heather Evert will lead this new fiber art workshop at the MCAC teaching teens how to use primative looms and recycled t-shirt yarn to create beautiful and functional pieces of fiber art for years to come. This workshop is great for beginners or the skilled crocheter or knitter. And each student will leave with their own beautiful piece of art.

    Join local artist Rhoq in this four-week drawing session suitable for artists of any experience level. The session presents a simple drawing method which emphasizes consistent proportion. For the beginner, this class will jump-start the artist's ability to accurately capture the shape and detail of a subject. Experienced artists will be encouraged to explore observation bias and refine the accuracy of existing skills. Class activities will focus primarily on linework, with basic shading used where it assists in clarifying the image.

    This class is recommended for any artist (Jr. High to Adult) with interest in developing realistic drawing skills and provides a foundation that can be extended into other styles and mediums of representational artwork. Paper and pencils will be provided. Experienced artists are welcome to bring other drawing media, if they prefer to use their own tools.

    Capture a child's life and memories in a very special journal!  Vintage children’s hardbound books and various other ephemera will be used to create unique, ring-bound journals. Even in these days of digital record keeping, leafing through a book filled with photos, and handwritten notes will provide a special joy for the years to come.

    This six-week course will give you plenty of time to create your book. MCAC Instructor, Liz Lathrop will demonstrate a variety of techniques for page creating, pocket making, tag and booklet making. All materials are provided but students are encouraged to bring their own treasured items to add to the books, and all skill levels are welcome.

    Dreaming of flowers and spring? Then join us for a floral paper collage workshop this March with Sugar Creek artist Rachel Newell. Collage art is a relaxing and inspiring medium - one that allows you to explore endless possibilities and combinations, all while re-using paper materials that have been saved and salvaged, spanning over decades of time.

    In this workshop Rachel will provide you with a large variety of paper materials to explore, cut out, and create with. This will be a canvas project using a decoupage glue application and everyone will leave with an original piece of art on a 8x10 or 9x12 canvas panel. It is an inspiring art form that allows you to see things not for what they are, but for what they can be. Great for teens and adults, beginner or advanced art students.

Our embroidered bouquets will include lazy daisy stitch, rose wheel weaving, leaf stitch, split stitch, French knots and outline stitches. This two session intensive is great for teens or adults

    Join instructor Claire Hedden for this four-week ceramics course. This class is great for those with no ceramic experience to learn the basics of hand building ceramics. Learn pinch, slab and coil techniques with surface decoration throughout. 

    Enrollment in this class provides access to MCAC's kilns and our full range of ceramic glazes, plus tool and 10lbs of clay. Enrolled students may also work on their own during open studio hours, at no additional charge. 

    Class size is limited to eight to allow for individual instruction time. Early registration is encouraged; seats typically sell out in advance. Experienced potters are welcome to join this class to experiment and learn new techniques. Student work is fired on-site by our ceramics studio assistant, allowing everyone to take home finished pieces.

    Join MCAC instructor Dave Templeton for this four-week beginner drawing class. Dave will teach you all the basics of drawing and students will practice depicting line, form, tone and texture. Projects will emphasize one-point and two-point perspective in order to produce drawings which accurately represent three-dimensional forms.

    This class is recommended for anyone wishing to start their drawing journey, and for painters who would like to create more accurate sketches before beginning to paint. No experience necessary! Students will be asked to complete simple homework assignments in a sketchbook that is provided by the MCAC.

    Join instructor Erin Furimsky for this four-week ceramics course. This class is great for those with no ceramic experience to learn the basics of hand building ceramics. (Pinch work, slab and coil techniques) Each night a new project in hand building for beginner to intermediate. 

    We will learn to make 3 forms all focused on holding a certain object; a sponge holder, a ring/jewelry holder, and cooking help (a spoon rest and tiny bowls for holding herbs when cooking). On the last day, we will be glazing our creations.


    Enrollment in this class provides access to MCAC's kilns and our full range of ceramic glazes, plus tools and 10lbs of clay. Enrolled students may also work on their own during open studio hours, at no additional charge.

    Tags! Tags! Tag! Spend an afternoon making a binder ring filled with different types of tags for your ephemera journals. Students will leave with at least a dozen tags for projects. We will spend the afternoon using book pages, fabric, paints, inks, stamps and paper ephemera, this is a meditative and calming artform. Make tags for your journals, gifts, or as a booklet. Open to all skill levels.  This class is great for adults and teens 12 and up.

    Join MCAC Instructor Alanna Veitch for two Tuesday Evening sessions experimenting with creating textures in clay using things we find in nature. Bring your seeds, rocks, leaves, etc. to see what unique and interesting patterns we can create in clay. We will be making wall tiles, plates or bowls from our stamped slabs. This is open to all experience levels. Work will be fired at the MCAC and will be available for pick up a week after the second session.

    *All materials including clay, glazes, tools and kiln firings included in fee.
