Stay Home Art Challenge, Day 32

Kusama Dot Challenge

Yayoi Kusama. What can I say about her? She is one of the most amazing and inspiring Japanese contemporary artists! Well-known for her repeating dot patterns, her art encompasses an astonishing variety of media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, film, performance and immersive installation. She has painted polka dots on walls, furniture, sculptures and even on plastic pumpkins, which gave me the idea for today’s Stay Home Art Challenge!

Instead of pumpkins, pick a summer fruit or vegetable and cover it with polka dots. (See my example with a ripe, red tomato.) All shapes and sizes of polka dots are great, use a pattern or follow your heart. Start with all white and fill in the fruit with dots all different colors or start with colorful paper like me and fill in with white or black dots. Think outside the box and cover an actual fruit with polka dots! We can’t wait to see what you make and where your creativity takes you.

Please submit a photo of your creation by emailing us at info@mcac.org by 5:00pm on Wednesday, April 29th
