Looking for some creative fun for you and your kiddo this winter? Well join us for a Saturday afternoon at the MCAC as we make Valentine Cards and Paper Flower Bouquets. Instructor Krystal Lyon will have examples in watercolor, collage and other techniques that you can try out. But really the sky is the limit and you will have access to multiple mediums, that's why the workshop is called creative play. Krystal will encourage the children and parents to sample different techniques and discover artwork that they truly love!

This is a workshop for parents and children (Ages 4 and up) together. (Each registration is good for 1 adult and 1 child.) We will provide each duo with five large envelopes and cards and a small vase to take their flowers home in. The rest is up to you! We hope you will join us on the 30th!

*Please note that we require masks and social distancing at this time and we will check temperatures upon arrival.

Valentine Print Workshop with Amber Gravett

    Saturday, February 13th, 2021

    1:00-4:00 PM

    Fee: $35 (Non Member)

Come in to the MCAC for some creative Valentine's fun! In this workshop, students will explore making images through custom made stamps and print out their own custom valentines to send to friends and family. Stamps are made by drawing onto a Speedball speedy carve block and cutting away a relief image. Students can make different objects and patterns, and experiment with using different ink colors. Each student will leave with their own unique stamp and multiple prints!

Amber Gravett, Amber was born in Bloomington and graduated from Normal Community High School. She earned an Associates of Art at Heartland Community College and was the first ever recipient of the Joseph E. McCauley scholarship. At Illinois State University she earned a Bachelor of Science in Fine Arts with a concentration in drawing. Amber uses drawing as a foundation for all of her artwork, which ranges from animation and illustration to ceramics and printmaking.

This is one-day workshop to make a ceramic project. This is great for any bee and honey lover. Coil pottery is an approachable and fantastic way to hand-build pottery. Join Erin Furimsky in this workshop to make pots with character and individuality around the theme of bees and beehives.

In this workshop we will create pots from coils of clay positioned in consecutive rings, placed one on top of another forming a beehive like texture. You have the option of making a mug or covered jar for honey. These will be glazed with a beautiful amber glaze and available for pick up within two weeks of the workshop.

All materials provided by the MCAC including clay, glazes, tools and kiln firing.
