In 2006, six Springfield, Illinois pastel artists joined together to form the Springfield Area Pastelists. By 2009 the group had grown to 20 members and formally organized as the Illinois Prairie Pastel Society, establishing By-Laws to guide the organization, and affiliating with the International Association of Pastel Societies. The Illinois Prairie Pastel Society celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2016 with over 40 members and seeks to expand public understanding of the medium. Works from the members will be juried and hung in half of the Brandt Gallery with a coordinating duo of oil paintings and pencil drawings in the other half of the gallery by Deana Moore Schoolcraft and David Stratton. This exhibition is generously sponsored by Yvonne and Brian Hoop.
Painter and gallery owner, Dan Addington, will serve as juror. Dan Addington has lived and worked in Chicago since 1992 after receiving his MFA in painting from Illinois State University in Bloomington/Normal. He received a BA with a double major in art and theater from Northwestern College in Orange City, IA, and a Masters in Art and Art History from Arkansas State University. His work has been exhibited in numerous group and solo exhibitions across the US, including solo exhibitions at The Rymer Gallery in Nashville, Aliya|Linstrum Gallery in Atlanta, Malton Gallery in Cincinnati, McMurtrey Gallery in Houston, and Oglvie/Pertl in Chicago. In Chicago, Dan's work has been shown at Gwenda Jay Gallery, Struve Gallery, Carrie Secrist Gallery, and Lineage Gallery. Addington is the owner and director of Addington Gallery in Chicago.
This exhibition is open to IPPS members only. Each artist may submit up to three pieces. The completed online entries are due to the McLean County Arts Center by April 23rd, 2019.
