Stay Home Art Challenge

Blind Contour Drawing Challenge

Today’s Challenge is to draw something, your hand, a water bottle, your portrait but there’s a twist. You can’t look at your drawing and you can’t lift your pen or pencil.

With Blind Contour Drawing the student fixes their eyes on the outline of the model or object, they are looking at the edge of the object with their eyes, while simultaneously drawing the contour very slowly, in a steady, continuous line without lifting the pencil or looking at the paper. Your hand is drawing what your eye sees. This technique improves your drawings because it causes you to use both senses of sight and touch as you draw.

Below is an example I did today, you can see my round glasses and round earrings, eyes, nose and lips in the drawing. This is a fun activity and you will end up with an abstract version of your portrait or object. Give it a try and share your finished artworks with us by sending a picture to info@mcac.org by Friday, May 8th at 5:00pm. We can’t wait to see what you create!
